NaMBT: Rubber Degradation Prevention
Sodium 2-mercaptobenzothiazole, also known as NaMBT, is a chemical compound that belongs to the class of benzothiazole derivatives. It is derived from the parent compound 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) by the addition of a sodium ion.
NaMBT is commonly used as a corrosion inhibitor and an antidegradant in rubber products. It helps to prevent the degradation of rubber by inhibiting the formation of free radicals that can lead to oxidation and degradation. It is particularly effective in protecting natural rubber from degradation caused by exposure to oxygen, ozone, and heat.
In addition to its applications in the rubber industry, NaMBT is also used as a copper corrosion inhibitor in cooling water systems and as a fungicide in agricultural applications.
